Principal's Message

Today marks the end of Term2 2025. It has been a fabulous term with so many positive experiences, learning and activities. The opportunity to settle into the newly refurbished Primary building has been the highlight of the term. We are so blessed to have such wonderful learning spaces, that are warm, light-filled and comfortable. The students and teachers have loved being in the new spaces. When the weather improves we will rehabilitate the primary playground after the trucks and contractor’s vehicles have destroyed the grass and now we have a mud puddle at the front of the building.  The wet weather has also not helped and we look forward to improving the playground to match the calibre of the building.

Last Friday we celebrated Sacred Heart Feast Day with a wonderful Mass prepared by Ms Wade and the Year 8 students. The prayers and reflections spoke about all our blessings and our charism of the Sacred Heart. This was a special day to celebrate our wonderful community and the proud traditions upon which our school is built.

Yesterday the Semester One reports were sent home and they should have become visible on your COMPASS page. These are important summaries of the achievements and efforts these past two terms. Please read them carefully paying particular attention to the commendations and recommendations for moving forward into the next semester. In Weeks 1 and 2 we will be offering the opportunity to meet with the class teachers to discuss the reports and the progress that the students have made. These are invaluable in understanding the reports. Keep an eye out for the booking tab on COMPASS. They are now open for booking.

Over the past two weeks I have had the privilege of meeting with many of our new 2026 kinder students and their families. It is so lovely to meet the families and learn about their children and how we can best support their transition to big school. The interviews will continue in the first weeks of Term 3 in preparation for the Orientation program that begins on 11th September.

We wish Mr Andrew Alderman a safe and restful Long Service Leave as he finishes up today for the next 4 months. He will return at the end of Term 4 to finish the year but his classes will be expertly covered by Mr Peter Turner and Mrs Lyne Witenden. Mrs Jodie McPherson will take over the responsibility of Year 8 PCA in Mr Alderman’s absence. We are lucky to have such fabulous staff to cover staff on leave.

Already the Term 3 calendar is full. On The first Wednesday 23 July we will welcome the new Catholic Education Director David De Carvalho to our school and parish. He will join with the Western Region Schools at the NAIDOC Mass and Awards at 10am in the Sacred Heart Church. Then he will meet with Fr Lolesio and other members of our community. We look forward to showcasing all that is wonderful about Sacred Heart.

Also on the 23 July Mr Bell, our passionate Science teacher, has arranged for our Primary students to experience a Science incursion featuring a Science Education team from the University of Newcastle. They will be presenting interactive activities for each of the Primary stages based around the science of Forces and Motion.

The holidays offer an opportunity for students, families and staff to refresh and rejuvenate, ready for another huge term. Take care if you are travelling and stay well and warm. Students will return for Term 3 on Tuesday 22 July.

Remember when you are kind to others, it not only changes you, it changes the world.

God Bless

Ms Nicky Trinder
