Principal's Message

Another big week at Sacred Heart! We have had a Year 10 careers excursion, a visit to Hennessy, the Year 7 excursion to Camp Hudson, a Primary disco, laid turf on the new section of the playground, made Mother’s Day gifts, had teams at Trent Barrett Shield and Mortimer Shield, students at Southern Country Rugby League trials and lots of teaching and learning. We also had our student leaders represent the school at the funeral of Mr Phil Quarmby, a long time staunch supporter of our school, past Board Chair and P & F worker, long time parent and friend of the school. We offer our sincerest sympathy and prayers to the Quarmby family.

We also now have a new Pope – Pope Leo XIV. Robert Prevost, 69, will be the 267th occupant of the throne of St Peter. He is the first American to fill the role of Pope, although he is considered as much a cardinal from Latin America because of the many years he spent as a missionary in Peru. He has Peruvian nationality and is fondly remembered as a figure who worked with marginalised communities and helped build bridges. He will be seen as a figure who favoured the continuity of Francis' reforms in the Catholic Church. Prevost is believed to have shared Francis' views on migrants, the poor and the environment. We look forward to another inspiring and Christian leader of our Church.

The weather continues to taunt us with gloriously warm days that we will extend the transition to winter uniforms by another week. A reminder that the school tie is in integral part of our winter uniform and there is an expectation that it is worn correctly at all times. When purchasing jumpers and jackets please ensure that they are part of our uniform policy.  Click on the link below to see the latest iteration of the uniform policy.

Next week the school will undergo a 5 yearly process of a compliance audit. This means that we need to satisfy a raft of compliance and legislative requirements to be granted registration to continue to operate as a NESA accredited school. We will welcome Mrs Brenda Foley a representative of Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn to our school to manage the audit. Our staff have worked incredibly hard to ensure that we have all documentation and evidence deserving of accreditation.

We wish all of our mothers and the motherly figures a wonderful day on Sunday and we give thanks for all the blessings, love and joy they bring to our lives. This coming Friday 16 May we will celebrate Mary - Help of Christians with a liturgy offered by the Infants staff and students. All are welcome to join us at 11.45am in the Church.

On Friday 16th some of our talented students will be competing in the CG Primary and Secondary Cross Country at Mt Stromlo for a position in the CECG team to compete at the NSWCCC/CPS Cross Country. We wish them every success. So too our Futsal teams will be competing in Wagga in the regional competition. Good luck to all.

In the past week School Fees have been issued and thank you to the families for the continued financial support of our school. The challenging cost of living currently does make school fees an added financial cost that we appreciate can be something else to juggle. There is the potential for remissions, but it does require a conversation and an application to assess the level of remission for which you may be eligible. Please contact the Front Office for a remission form. Sacred Heart is a systemic school which means we rely on funding from both the Government and our system office Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn to make up the shortfall in funding. CECG derives its contribution from the fees that we gather. We are so very grateful for the ongoing commitment of families to allow us to provide resources, facilities and opportunities for our students.

Our beautiful, refurbished building is on the very cusp of being finished. We are so close that it is frustrating. Every week is a week closer to taking occupancy. We look forward to the day we can pick up our desks and chairs and move into our wonderful space.

Have a fabulous weekend. May it be restful and relaxing, filled with a special celebration of the mothers in our lives.

God Bless

Ms Nicky Trinder
