Principal's Message
Term 2 is well underway and we are very glad to be back! With all the action over the holidays we have made a very positive start on the term. The wonderful Year 9 students (along with some lovely Year 8 students) presented another reverent and moving prayer re-enacting the Passion of Christ at the Good Friday service on the 18th April. Many people have made contact with the school to commend the students on the presentation – “the kids were a credit to the school…so fantastic!” “My mum cried all the way through and she is still talking about it.” Once again Ms Wade and Mrs Maxwell led the students in a fabulous experience – one they will never forget.
The local Cootamundra ANZAC Day March was well attended and supported by our students and families. Once again our students were respectful throughout the March and Service (despite the hot conditions) and marched proudly, resplendent in their uniforms. Thank you to all the families.
Also over the holidays we had an industrious band of families in the secondary playground removing the internal Ag plot including the chicken run. They dismantled and moved all the sheds and fences to open up the playground back to the convent. We now have more playground space and our students are keen to get access to more space to run and play. Thank you to Mrs Byrne for her initiative and the generous donation of time, labour and heavy machinery from so many enthusiastic families. It all happened so quickly and the playground was transformed. It looks so good. It will obviously take some time to re-grass and rehabilitate the area but hopefully it will be available soon.
Next week our Year 7 cohort will travel to Lacmalac outside Tumut for the annual cultural immersion and retreat at Camp Hudson. This is a fabulous experience and it promises to be a wonderful couple of days at the river’s edge. Ms Wade, Mrs Maher and Mrs Maxwell are busy preparing a packed schedule of activities and Mrs Black is busy preparing a delicious menu for the excursion. Please ensure that you are across all requirements especially as it is likely to be very cold and essential items need to be packed.
We also have students representing the school at various sporting events in coming days and weeks. Today our Primary Cross Country reps headed to Batlow and we are confident that they will make us proud once again. Please consult all events to ensure that you are aware of upcoming events and appropriate consent and/or payment is made. We have Rugby League and Mortimer Shield events next week.
The Primary Student Leaders are busy preparing for the social event of the term – the Primary Disco next Thursday. Tickets are on sale at school, during lunchtime. Please mark this important date in your diary.
The weather continues to play with us and we have different seasons in one day it seems. Traditionally we return in Term 2 in winter uniform but there will obviously be a two week period of transition from summer to winter depending on weather conditions and availability of unform pieces. Please check the uniform list when purchasing new items to ensure that you are purchasing correct pieces of the school uniform.
We hope everyone had a fabulous break and now we look forward to another wonderful term. We are still experiencing unforeseen delays with the classroom refurbishment, and it is tantalisingly close but hopefully we will soon be moving into our beautiful, refurbished classrooms.
God Bless
Ms Nicky Trinder
