Sacred Heart Central School is a wonderful school that has much of its origins in the past visions of the Sisters of Mercy and the De La Salle Brothers.
Back in 1882 the then parish priest Father Butler invited the first of the Religious Orders to carry on the previous vocational ministry of lay teachers. Catholic Education has served Cootamundra and district for over 140 years.
With a dedicated staff and P&F, insightful and visionary School Board and a supportive parish led by Fr Joshy Kurien Sacred Heart continues to enrich the lives of every student who graces its doors.
Sacred Heart is a K-10 Central School in the Archdiocese of Canberra Goulburn and is led by a Catholic Education Office committed to a Culture of High Performance in all that we do, where every child counts. As part of a highly professional education system we are a christian school of the Catholic tradition, dedicated to quality teaching which supports the learning and success of all students while encouraging a personal relationship with Christ. Our diocese is led by the Director Ross Rox, and Archbishop Christopher Prowse.
We are a proud school and the Sacred Heart staff and parents hold the spirit, culture and traditions as vital to the formation of our students as we educate them for an ever-changing world. Sacred Heart is a dynamic learning environment where the spirit of our school is seen in the academic and extra curricula achievements of all students regardless of age or need. We set high expectations and pride ourselves in providing a learning environment where every student can feel happy and safe. Many of our past students become school leaders in Stage 6 at Hennessy Catholic College Young, Sydney boarding schools and Wagga boarding schools. Our students are very well prepared for the rigours of ongoing study and leadership.
Sacred Heart is a special place which brings together faith, community, friends and learning. We strive to develop skills and knowledge that will assist students to become motivated and thoughtful citizens, promoting achievement, wellbeing and engagement.
Students are encouraged to remember the important life lessons of tolerance, respect and friendship in the years ahead and are urged to keep the spirit of Sacred Heart alive in their hearts.
Our community fosters the mindset that all things are possible when individuals truly believe in their God-given gifts and abilities.
Our 2018 School Captains – Joseph Ward and Sianne Marsay-Turner, when asked about what is special about being at Sacred Heart said "As School Captains at Sacred Heart in 2018, we believe that the most valued trait of our school is the close connections and relationships between all students from Kindergarten to Year Ten. This is because we are blessed to be a small school, which means students and staff get to know each other well, building a strong sense of community. These close bonds create a fantastic learning environment for students. Like our families, the staff work with all individuals helping them to pursue their dreams and ensuring that we are trying hard to succeed in our learning. "
The educational advantage gained by students whilst attending Sacred Heart is obtained through a rigorous, holistic approach to education which allows students to develop academically, socially, physically and spiritually. This is achieved by setting high expectations in all areas, encouraging students to participate and take healthy risks with their learning. We offer support and challenge opportunities which cater for the diverse learning needs of students in a contemporary educational setting.
The school offers a welcoming, inclusive environment which allows students to effectively learn because they feel safe and nurtured. It also places high priority on the importance of setting high expectations and developing literacy and numeracy skills. Academic success, student wellbeing and faith formation go hand in hand to help students to grow from wide eyed, curious Kindy’s into responsible, respectful and capable young adults who understand the importance of giving back to the Cootamundra and wider community.
I am extremely proud of our school and am grateful for the diverse skills and talents which all our students, staff and parents share to ensure it is a wonderful place of learning.
May Christ guide you in your life’s journey and may you be blessed with a life of happiness and wonder.
Mrs Janet Cartwright
